Birds learning songs is similar to humans learning language. Listening phase = begins 30 days after hatching: birds need to be exposed to their model song by the tutor bird. Crystallisation = 100 days after hatching: the bos resembles that the of tutor song but there are some differences (not exact copy, te(cid:373)poral order of the so(cid:374)g is the sa(cid:373)e as the tutor"s. A reafferent stimulus = self-generated (ie. seeing or feeling your own arm moving) Exafferent stimulus = externally generated (ie. seeing someone else moving their arm) The perception of these two different stimuli is different so that we can distinguish one from the other. It starts as a motor command coming from the motor cortex: This command is sent to the motor cortex and a copy of it, the copy element is sent to another part of the brain (efference copy) Mvts can lead to sensory reafference (body mvts)
