An endangered species, monitored since 1985, managed since. They do not plan to start new colonies. Grows in the littoral/costal zones on 4 islands. Long pre-reproductive cycle, can remain in a vegetative stage. Flowers every 4-19 years, and dies after it flowers. Is an ecological outlier with a specific niche in the foothills of the rocky"s. Does not have as significant of an ecological role in quebec, but contributes to biodi- versity. Has a sign campaign and worked on a growing project in a school. Has had a few volunteers helping with conservation, nothing too structured. One challenge is having too many people aware of the location of colonies of an en- dangered species. Political: protecting ecological integrity is part of the parks canada mandate. Economic: relocation cost would be low (easy to cultivate by seed) All native components of an ecosystem must remain intact. Scientific: further develop our understanding of the species through translocation.
