Coalition governments will be associated with issue spaces that are multidimensional there are many issues to deal with not dominated by one issue e. g class, left vs right. You have a multiparty system more than two parties. In a two party system (single issue) (electoral system = majoritarian and 1st past the post) The dynamics are more complicated in a multiparty system. There is no party that is powerful enough to form a government on its own. Success with grand coalitions include all parties in the party system. G. c. are a political device that is used to accomplish social accommodation a way to share power so that all social identities are represented in government. A multiparty system with a m. w. coalition is different. Only as many parties as are needed to form a government.
