Lenin -> fanon: moving from violence as means to an end to violence as the end. He who wields the mans has not just the ends, but also its implications. If one wants an end, the one must take responsibility for everything that results from it. Democratic centralism -> freedom of debate, unity of decision (horizontal debate, vertical decisions) 2nd international (soc dem) -> economists/syndicalists (working within the unions) > iskra (revolutionaries) -> bolshevism (refusal of passive membership) By breaking with mensheviks, lenin wanted the party membership to preserve the unity of democratic centralism, to ensure that the bottom-level party members still have to be active enforcers of the policies that their debates help bring about. During the comintern, the top members of international communism were also the top members of the soviet union. Therefore, local communist parties across the globe became under the de facto guidance of the soviets; soviet interests and revolutionary interests became identical.
