Can mean across or within nations (must be specific) Looking at economic growth, different progressions of gdp-per capita (comparison: within nations: Ref. to class/income (distribution of income within countries) Broader social economic issues that intersect with class. Emphasis: inequality within nations (domestic distribution of income) Relative deprivation: distribution of income (how do certain groups rank vis-a-vis others?) A per-capita increase in the goods and services produced by a nation. Assumption: increase in goods and services benefits human-kind overall. 2: the urban population will increase vis a vis the rural population. Increase as ppl move to more complex jobs away from farms. Less of emphasis on daily needs (survival basics), but now as you get rising middle-class there is a consumption toward durable consumer goods and perhaps luxury goods as families do not only have to spend on necessities. Systemic, structural change in a country toward the direction of a more modern and urban way of life: political development.
