Could be a basic lower-middle-upper classification based on income. Social status, but this is harder to define. Economic role and which group is more productive. Will be our focus because this is most related to politics. Generally a strong correlation exists between these three. Where irrigation was needed, there was generally more inequality because the rich could control that chokepoint of access. Many other factors existed, such as with global markets and more. Plantation style as in latin america, with cash crops. May be domestic or foreign such as dole. Rivalries generally exist among this group especially among those societies who have not yet urbanized because they compete for power. Have enough land to be comfortable and hire some labor, but split the duties of farming. Comfortably well off to take advantage of some market changes. Are cases where land reform has redistributed power from large landowners to the middle peasants.
