Whatever the name, it is not a monolithic bloc. Global south the best" way to refer to underdeveloped countries. North and south don"t mean anything intrinsically. Global south does not imply one big entity. The state- without state, development would not be possible. Need to understand the power play between different regions of the world. Development doesn"t include only one population gaining an advantage, should be global development. For the first time, development becomes and international goal. Origins: post- wwii reconstruction and the marshall plan. Rebuilding what had been the most economically advanced economies of the era. Massive amount of money seemed to work. Much of the aid was sent to allies. Much was used to beef up defenses at the periphery, where there were proxy wars. Moral obligation was pushed to the side in the hopes of winning the cold war. Countries located in the middle east get more aid because of the security threat.
