O establishment of plo (1964: fateh-led takeover of plo (1968-), yasser arafat emerges as plo leader. Original goal was to take liberate all of palestine: changing fateh/plo goals. From a non-sectarian state in all of palestine to a two state solution, 1974-88. Palestinians will have limited degree of self-government in parts of the west bank and gaza pending permanent status negotiations: arafat elected president 1996, permanent status talks fail 2000-01 as second intifada erupts. Palestinian uprising because they can"t agree which polarizes the population. Higher ratio of violence than the first uprising: arafat dies 2004, succeeded by mahmud abbas, israel withdraws from gaza 2005, abbas wins presidential election, but hamas wins plc elections 2006. Does not win a big majority of the votes. Fateh designed a mixed constituency national pr system: fateh-hamas conflict (2007-, israel-gaza wars (2008, 2012, 2014) Largely arising because rockets come out of gaza against israel. No new elections since 2006 because of fateh-hamas split.
