Document Summary
Behaviourism studied environmental forces: john b. watson: behaviourism, challenged psych"s focus on consciousness/unconsciousness, believed behaviour is in the nurturer debate. Identifying which genes affect mental disorder can help develop therapies based on genetic manipulation: brain vs. Mind: brain adapts biologically, mind adapts to cultural influences. What makes a good researcher? thinks critically about ways of interpreting the data, what supports it, additional evidence, reasonable conclusions. There are various methods, each with different strengths and weaknesses, the method chosen is determined by which would best work with the problem investigated: scientific method: Theory/hunch > hypothesis > predictions with operational de nitions > evidence. 1: strengths: provide detailed description analysis of new, complex, or rare, pitfalls: may not provide a representative picture of the phenomena overall. Observational studies: systematically observing/recording behaviour without interfering with the behaviour. E. (2) naturalistic observation: purpose is to observe behaviour of something in its natural environment.
