PSYC 213 Lecture 6: PSYC 213 - Lecture 6
Document Summary
Learning to use auditory cues for recognizing people. Lot of last class talking about theories of perception. Apophenia: seeing meaningful patterns in meaningless objects: activate internal represntation of an object, we are detecting a pattern of features activating the internal representation of objects in our mind. Interaction of emotional state as how we perceive things. Top down processing: when you let your models of the world influence your perception. Bottom-up processing: when you build perceptions into a model of the world. Top down and bottom up process work together to build our perceptions. Not everyone agrees with this definition, other psychologists had a lot of views: no clear definition or consensus about what it is. It has to interact with other cognitive processes to study attention. People have put a lot of research interest and efforts into this field of attentions. If aroused or alert we will be more attentive.
