➢ Conformity: A change in behaviour as a result of the real or imagined
influence of other people.
➢ Sick Building Syndrome: People in an environment start complaining
about certain symptoms and very quickly other people dont catch the
symptoms but the reporting of the symptoms
➢ Norm Formation and Conformity:
• Autokinetic Effect: It is a phenomenon of visual perception in
which a stationary small point of light in an otherwise dark or
featureless environment appears to move.
• Chameleon Effect: The tendency to do what others are doing, i.e.
mimicking behaviour.

• Asch’s Line Judgment Study:
▪ Majority of people were publically complying but a small
percentage of people were convinced that what other
people were doing was right.
▪ The conformity pressure was so strong that it seemed to
have changed their perception.
▪ The presence of one dissenter can shatter the conformity
effect.
