Prof will not be at the exam but the tas will (we can ask questions) There are some noxious stimuli which cause a very quick withdrawal response. The only way to make the response quick enough to be useful is to bypass the signal having to go all the way up to the brain for processing and back down via motor signals. This is the difference between 800ms and 20ms (reaction time) it could result in a lot more injury. Both noxious mechanical and thermal stimuli will provoke this reflex.
