Our current methods of cutting or inducing inflammation may not be enough to model certain pain. Better assays: of women: vulvodynia may be caused by chronic yeast infection in the vagina and affects up to 12% Treatment of female mice with repeated yeast infection. But the assay takes three months, and no-one wants to do it due to practicality reasons. Criticism: we are measuring reflexive withdrawal from a stimulus: even if it is not a reflex, it"s simple-minded.
