Introduction To Stress:
Stress = unifying theme. Not just related to physiological response.
Importance indicated by health of “low stress” populations
Brain controls body through the endocrine system and peripheral nervous system
Physiological activity needs adjustment by the CNS, especially for environmental demands
Somatic NS controls voluntary muscles
Neurons go from spinal cord to muscles without synapse
Parasympathetic Nervous System: long preganglionic/short postganglionic fibres
Sympathetic Nervous System: short pregagnlionic/long postganglionic fibers
