Social psychologists emphasized how variable our personality was and wanted to abandon a generalized dispositional trait but focus on how situations reinforce our behaviours. That debate has been resolved because the field of personality psychology survived and is thriving. Can be a personal question- doesn"t mean you"re a chameleon that doesn"t have a stable sense of self- can also be a question for personality. Mcadams gave a lecture and wrote an article about this in 2009- Would argue that we talk in trait terms all the time. If his daughter heard it she would say tmi- because he shouldn"t talk about this stuff. Situation in which he was called a chameleon. As a university student the prof wasn"t the way he wished he could be- low on extraversion, high on neuroticism- socially awkward.
