The big 5 system is a reliable system. Reliable means you get the same result every time you get it. Validity has to do with whether the measure is assessing what you want to measure. To see if it"s valid is have a friend or family member fill it out about you. They correspond to how people see you behaving. Also have face validity because it"s getting at something you can see in yourself. Also predictive validity- useful in predicting outcomes in the work life, school, how university students will transition socially in starting in university. Chapter 1- highlights that humans are a eusocial species. This means we have evolved to be able to function in complex social groups, in extended family structures, clans and other groups. What this means in terms of personality is that we evolved to detect variations in traits that would be predictive of how people would behave in social groups.
