Remember: you cannot get better test validity than what you"re trying to classify. If the definition has poor reliability, the biological measure is useless- it cannot be better than the definition. Biological measures can be classified- the first group of tests are called challenge tests. Challenge tests= where you are doing something to a group and seeing how they are going to react. Hypothesis is that people with certain mental disorders will react differently to the challenges and that will tell you something about the disorder or the possibility that they have a disorder. Suppresses the release of cortisol. (but not in depressed people (it was thought)). They found that people who were depressed would show this cortisol reaction in spite of the fact that you have given them this drug. It supresses cortisol in normal individuals, not in depressive. Research has demonstrated that it is not true of all depressives- it is true of about 60%.
