Interview- problems with the interview, in terms of what the diagnostician brings to the interview, often adds up to what they find. Gave some examples of situations where the referral letters were manipulated, and that is kind of what people found- i have more examples of that. The referral letter: study, 2 groups sent to psychologists, letter from neurologist vs psychologist, same letter: headaches, trouble studying, etc Study: what they did is that they had psychiatrists, clinical psychologists and graduate students- all had them listening to a taped interview, which was basically a script. The interviewer and interviewee basically following a script- a script designed to produce extreme normality. They asked the psychiatrists, psychologists and graduate students to diagnose the individual in terms of whether they were psychotic, neurotic or mentally healthy. And, before they heard the script, the interaction- a famous psychiatrist said to the psychiatrists that this person looks neurotic but this person is really psychotic.
