Determining the motivational impact of praise is a complex question which depends on how the praise is interpreted: Praise= to commend the worth of someone"s behaviour or to express approval or admiration. Not the same as feedback; feedback is required to stay motivated can be presented in a neutral way. Praise is the evaluation that is placed on top of the feedback. There"s a common assumption that praise equals to verbal reinforcement. Assumes that it will reinforce the behaviour its used for. Brophy did a study on grade school classrooms and observed what teachers say/do and the outcomes.
