He has a very inluenial theory, one of the leading moivaion researchers in the world. Recall the c"s quesion was why people do aciviies when there is no reward something about the experience. But ed deci is not wondering why we are interested in an acivity but why someone people lose their intrinsic. Used to love doing things for their own sake but not anymore. Examples: childhood sport, (k dropped basketball while his 61 year old brother sill loves it and plays) musical instrument (once reach university, stop certain aciviies. K"s nephews were high ranked as hockey players but in university they were more oriented towards school and gave up the instrument. Reading for pleasure we used to love reading when younger (harry poter etc. ) there was a love of reading that did not require an adult to ask us to do. Most people had this- good predictor of who will do well in school.
