Embracing things that are lowly, humble and shameful - creating a common place to be uni ed. Socio-political (high priests, sadducees, pharisees) that is, against the rich. Religious (against the temple) - renewer of the tradition. Large scale of societies (spreading across the mediterranean) with cities as the seat of power. An agrarian economy, where the ow of goods travels to the city. Wealth ows from countryside to the city; crops from peasants to urban. Rulers are urban elites who own the lands. Socially strati ed between elite (10) to peasants (90). Rulers (1-2%): high priests, chief priests and priests. Retainers, tax collector and merchants (6-8); sadducees, scribes, tax-collectors, perhaps some pharisees.
