Example of weak ties: an acquaintance, facebook friendships, etc. Example of a norm: little girls wear pink and little boys wear blue. If you a boy who wore pink for example, you parents might sanction you or disown you. Social control on you when you were sixteen, for example, was strong (done by your parents) Loosest in one age group: our age group, which is why we are open to new influences. We are willing to give up more freedom for social peace. Does it matter? (post in discussions, due two weeks from friday) Example of a macro event: a war, nine eleven, etc. These events function as triggers of social change, but that is not always the case. The power relations between those groups have changed. The relationships of power between ethnic groups, cultural groups, religious groups, gender groups have shifted as a result of certain macro events.
