SOCI 211 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Longitudinal Study, Tablet Computer, Panel Data
Document Summary
Midterm: midterms have been graded, class average is b, grades will be posted tonight, we will be reviewing the questions most people struggled with in class tomorrow. Lecture plan: survey research: intro, strengths & weaknesses of survey research, cross-sectional surveys, longitudinal surveys, retrospective surveys, self-administered questionnaires: benefits & drawbacks, how to design an effective questionnaire, common issues in survey question designs, intro to data analysis. Trend: researcher interested in how people"s inclinations change over time, ask the same questions at different points in time (to different people) Panel: asking the same type of questions over and over again, but in this case you have exactly the same sample (whether it"s people or other entities, such as newspapers when looking at newspaper sales numbers over time). The problem with panel research especially when done with people is that people die overtime, so your sample is dwindling over time. Panel research is very popular in medical research (pharmaceutical).
