Form of racism that is automatic or unconscious and consists of subtle insults directs toward people of colour. Stereotype threat: negative stereotypes about group is seen as threatening which entails possibility of being judged. Flow: racial microaggressions > stereotype threat > psychological well- being > academic performance + individual health > group inequalities, mortality + morbidity. Strong link between stereotype threat and academic performance. Aboriginals at university have beaten odds and have made it to university and then when they reach they have to deal with microaggressions. Act as hurdles to their academic and social life. Study: focus groups with 6 aboriginal students to understand microaggressions. Study found that indigenous students face challenges that affect academic and social performance. People assume that aboriginal identity are not the same as modern consumer culture.
