Education and Earning:
oLifetime earning of Aboriginal female with university degree: $1 million
oTrade cert/college degree leads to equivalent earnings between Aboriginals and
oAboriginal male who drops out of school gives up over $0.5 million
oAboriginal female who drops out of school earns <$90k
Education is an important equalizer for socio-economic power between Aboriginal and
non-Aboriginal people
Red bars: proportion who do not have a degree of any kind
oBetween Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal: more than double the Aboriginal people
do not have a degree
oGreatest disparity between Inuit and the other groups
Yellow bars: similar numbers throughout, still lower for Inuit
Brown bars: the gap is much smaller but still a significant gap between Aboriginal vs.

When compared the least educated non-Aboriginal to the least educated Aboriginal: non-
Aboriginal people do much better even with no education
Most educated: doing on par with Metis, Inuit and First Nations: education is a strong
leveler between people
Least educated has the disparities
Some improvements in educational attainment, especially high school and post-secondary
Educational attainment improves economic position within society, not only earning
power, but employment rates as well
Much of the gains in post-secondary educational attainment < university degree/BA
