Importance of political ideology in social problems. Set of systems or theories and belief structures held by individuals/groups especially about socio- political issues: goals and methods to attain outcomes. Set of beliefs so strongly held by appearance that it causes them to ignore evidence again such beliefs (teacher"s de nition) Things that don"t t my world view will be discounted/ignored. See things in such a way that you hold a rm opinion on it. Left: liberal (state has control, organizes everything) Right: conservative (government only provides security and order, doesn"t regulate), free market) E. g conservative party wants to limit welfare but not abandon it so a bit on the right. Death penalty, abortion, same-sex marriage better indicator of liberalism/conservatism. Asking about solving social problems = even better indicator. Best indicator: ideological makeup of the society. State should be involved yes = liberal, no = conservative. The more support for left programs, state intervening in social problems.
