Most societies have an interest in the past. Goal study our changing biological and cultural diversity. Reconstruct and explain lifeways in the past from material evidence (archaeology: this can all be done by exploring sites, different sites: Midden site (looking at debris, garbage of what past people have left behind) Remote sensing: method where you use a ground penetrating radar or machines that detect irregularities under the soil. Sampling usually do not excavate the entire site. Evidence/artifacts are recorded, labelled, photographed and mapped systematically. 4. 5 mya earliest evidence of bipedal hominids: bipedal walking on two feet (vs. four) 200 000 ya origins and spread of modern humans.
