ANTHROP 2AN3 Lecture Notes - Hydroxylapatite, Deuterium, Collagen
Document Summary
We can reconstruct diets by analyzing the isotopes in a skeleton in both bones and in teeth. We"re only getting heavy carbon atoms from meat. More maise in their diet (high up on the graph), more wheat based diet (lower on the graph) Imp: when you have fully articulated skeletons, you can get an idea whether somebody migrated sometime in life. A historical record can only take us so far. Some people say different stories about the battle, so you don"t know which is legit. Overlap between strontium and oxygen isotopes= pangea broke up everything, so basically w/e happened to mountain changes were the same, so there"s an overlap. People mixing c3 and c4 foods will have mixed results, and that"s not helpful. Delocalization- in olden days we had to be local- we had to hunt and eat where we lived.
