Carbon and plant photosynthesis -two main ones are c3 and c4 plants -c3=wheat, oates -c4=corn, maise, sugarcane -individuals eating these different types of plants will have diff isotopes -c3 plants don’t like heavy carbon, whereas c4 plants love carbon15, so in human skeletons there will be a higher number of isotopes if they had eaten a lot of c4 -wheat will have negative numbers -c4 will have less negative numbers -carbon isotopes If there is a specific food item is that known as a symbol of high status and you look at the remains of a dead person of power, you should be able to find that item in their bones -high carbon will give you a lot of cavities! -stable oxygen isotopes can help you figure out where someone is living based on the water that they’re drinking -strontium isotope -derived from a radioactive isotope -the strontium in our bones and teeth come from
