What is in a term: alterity, categories and classifications, social roles, relationships. Sex and gender: sex : observable physical characteristics that distinguish two kinds of human beings, females and males, gender: the culturally constructed beliefs, behaviours and roles considered appropriate for each sex or otherwise related to sex difference. Performative, it"s something you do rather than something you are: understandings, processes, subjectivities, and practices that are not necessarily generated or tied to reproductive organs, ex. Travestis dress a certain way, mannerism, bodily modification, female name: we learn gender when growing up through our parents, culture and society, the acquisition and internalisation of social norms. The body: a source of meaning, site of experience and, a vehicle for transformation, ex. The obsession with diet and exercise in today"s society. Success if you fit a certain body type. Certain body types have certain moral states (lazy) Fit vs fat: self- restraint, keeping goals, hard working.
