He is a german conflict sociologist, social evolutionist, and a political theorist of communism. He elaborated the concepts of social consciousness and ideology. Basic assumption of his is that people only exist in society. Individuals are not autonomous units, but are part of society, and the society of which people are part of determines their character, personality, morality, ideas and beliefs. If you want to understand society, study society; not the individual. Society itself is a pattern of social relations. These patterns of social relations condition the individual. Refers to the style o type of economic system, which also influences the individual. Refers to the social relations surrounding the organization of labor and ownership/control of property. When you understand who works for whom you have insights into who has more power. Although a society consists of many things other than mode of productions (culture), it is the social relationship surrounding the production of material things that determines the culture.
