Human culture: learned behaviours and beliefs that shape our human experiences. Anthropologists study differences and similarities in culture around the world. Ethnocentrism- the erroneous idea that one"s culture and its values are somehow right or superior to another culture"s: many people therefore judge another culture according to the standards of their own, involves overcoming culture shock. An approach adopted and promoted by anthropologists. Understanding another society in its own terms. Anthropology is holistic: understanding how different aspects of societies are interrelated, interdisciplinary approach. Anthropologists do long-term fieldwork: living with the people they study, cultural anthro, linguistics, conducting excavations, archaeology, physical anthro. Our culture upbringings and biology determine who we are. The four subfields of anthropology: physical/biological anthropology, archaeology, cultural anthropology, linguistics, applied anthropology. The study of contemporary cultures and societies; work with informants. Culture is defined as transmitted learned behaviour. Ethnography- a description of an aspect of culture within a societ.
