Document Summary
Anthro 1aa3: food sex and death- lecture 6: the sambians. In our society, we tend to divide people into three categories: heterosexual, homosexual and bisexual, and we tend to view sexuality as an ascribed (fixed) category or identity. And we think of sexuality as something ascribed- something that you cannot change, you are born with it, something not fluid and the result of genetic. But in some societies, culture influences sexuality, even if only for a short period of time. Live in the jungle and practice farming. They farm but not large scale agriculture- farms for families (like how we grow crops in our backyard) and basic hunting. Tend to move frequently to avoid enemies and prevent taxing their resources. Seminomadic- move villages every few years to prevent resource depletion. Tribe leaders-in charge of politics and decisions regarding their tribe. Guardians of their ancestry, culture, traditions, beliefs, and creation story. In charge of initiation rites and rituals.
