The study of contemporary cultures and societies: culture is defined as transmitted, learned behavior, methodology participant observation, interviews. Ethnography a description of an aspect of culture within a society. The study of past societies and their cultures using material remains (e. g. , tools, ceramics, sites) (past groups of people, past cultures, they try to interoperate what they can about the past through material remains such as houses, temples etc. ) Studies the construction and use of language by human societies: descriptive linguistics how language works. Sociolinguistics the relationship between language and social behaviour. How have they changed? (language experts how different languages relate to each other and how they diverge from each other) (they can study ancient text like shakespeare, or contemporary cultures- hiring new archaeologist that like to study poetry example) How is their speech different from tim hortons? (the annoying sizes at starbucks, the complexity of drinks, gendered, classes, cultures double-double tims)
