Document Summary

Anthropology 2pa3 - introduction to prehistoric archaeology third lab assignment. Subsistence patterns and zooarchaeology (compiled by dr. aubrey cannon 2009) Each assemblage consists of animal bones recovered from a midden, house or burial context. Treat each assemblage as a separate spatial and/or temporal component of the site from which it was recovered. Compile a master list of identifications organized by component, taxon, element, portion, side and age. Calculate the total number of identified specimens (nisp) for each taxon by component. Calculate the minimum number of individual animals (mni) needed to account for the elements recovered from each component (see appendix a). Compare the components and develop interpretations to account for any differences you observe. Compare the results for the nisp and mni calculations and evaluate which measure you feel provides the better basis for interpreting possible changes over time. Prepare and present a brief report on your results in class the week of november 30th.
