Long bone of the upper leg = femur: connects to the pelvis, compact bone: external surface of the bone. Can be distinguishes by looking at it because it looks very dense; few pores or spaces: cancellous/ spongy bone : found in the inside of the bone, with a high concentration in the ends. Found around almost all of our organs for sensations. Mineral reservoirs: holds calcium because it is a living tissue itself. Movement: tendons, muscles and ligaments allow us to move through facilitation of bones. There are around 206 bones in the adult human skeleton. There are more bones in children because they haven"t all fused together yet. Axial skeleton dissected: cranium *on tests: will be given a drawing and you"ll need to label. 22 bones (+ 6 ear ossicles + 1 hyoid bone) = 29 bones in total. Terminology: skull: the skeleton of the head, with or without the mandible.
