This monument does not survive in tact, only fragments exist. The leader ordered the demolition of the building and all evidence of pre hispanic culture. Templo mayor was in the centre of the building, the tallest structure in the complex and the heart of shrines and ceremonial events. It had four platforms raised on a podium, each platform was 7 1/2 metres tall; two temples are built at the top of the building. The temple on the south side is dedicated to huitzilopochtli, on the north side there is the temple of the sun and in the centre is the temple of the wind god. A sculpture, scultped from basalt; an igneous rock. Weighs three tons and is 9 feet tall, the largest existing aztec carving. Discovered in the centre of the templo mayor. She is shown wearing a necklace of human hearts and hands, her head are seperants, her legs are claws.
