Eugenie fled incognito, fearing a similar fate as previous leaders. She left with her dentist and a lady in waiting, traveled to england where she lived for the rest of her life. N3 was incarcerated in nice conditions by the prussians (in a castle). He was released in 1871 and joined eugenie in england. Many people who had worked for the court also came to live with them, expecting them to be looked after, but this did not work. The property was meant to accommodate an entourage. Carpeaux marble bust of n3, completed after his death in 1873. Worked on it for well over a year, and n3 died in jan 1873.
