Challenged fordist compromise: cannot separate capitalism from patriarchy. Crenshaw and bell hooks notions of intersectionality: argued that feminists at the time disregarded women in other contexts women of colour. Mohanty: feminist movement had essentialized the third world woman ; ignorant, poor, tradition-bound, victimized like western women, but much worse off: global sisterhood as neo-colonial project, ignores epistemic advantage of marginalized women. Idea of many different feminisms: need regional specificity, respect for diverse viewpoints about goals and methods of feminist activism. Called on governments, ngos, private sector, civil society to take action on: Inequalities and inadequacies in relation to poverty, education, health care: violence against women, domestically and in war. Inequality in the sharing of power and decision-making at all levels. While some issues are universally supported, others are highly contentious.
