Appropriation: the act of borrowing or reusing existing elements within a new work: barbara kruger deny the notion of originality. Images and elements of culture that have been appropriated commonly involves famous and recognisable works of art: marcel duchamp uses appropriation, the work of the artist is selecting the object. Appropriation artists don"t believe in originality: appropriation can increase awareness of the original piece, we tend to equate originality with aesthetic newness but like who says that reusing an existing image is not an example of that.
