Document Summary

The discipline of art history was invented in the western world. It has opened up a great deal since then. What was considered the art centre by others has a western history. In the renaissance: rome is the centre of the world art. Back then, artists needed to get to rome to study and be considered serious artists. Towards the 18th, 19th, 20th century (18th towards end of 20th), art was majorly studied in paris. Many iconic works came out from these european places (i. e. picasso, van gogh). Early-mid 20th century the art capital shifts towards new york. Abstract and expressionism was the main movement of this time there. Mid-late 20th century: new york, la, london and berlin are the western art centres now. Technology is changing the idea that we need to be in certain geographic places to be involved in the art community. There are 228 major international scale art exhibitions happening in the world.
