Document Summary

What is a dwarf planet: is in orbit around the sun, is close to round in shape, has not (cid:498)cleared the neighbourhood(cid:499) of its orbit, this leaves things that are not round. Called (cid:498)small solar system bodies(cid:499: is not a satellite. ** #1 and #4 are redundant: 1 au= distance from earth to sun. Solar system: we live in a solar system with 8 diverse planets and a number of dwarf planets, some planets are (cid:494)rocky(cid:495) like the earth and some are made of gas like jupiter. In a few billion years the sun will be so hot it will burn away life on earth: the sun revolves around our galaxy (the milky way) every 225-250 million years. Outward to the other stars: going from interplanetary space to interstellar space is a huge jump in distance, average distances between stars are about a million time larger than the distances between the planets in our solar system.
