Bio 1M03 March 16, 2016 Biodiversity, Evolution and Humanity Mark-Recapture Method - Helps to estimate the size of a population - Variety of way of tagging it - The tags cannot interfere with behavior and cannot cause pain - Tag must not fall off and it must be easily visible - Important to choose a tag that is durable, recognizable and they must be specific to the animal and adapt to its conditions Growth Curves - Generations (independent) in relation to population (dependent) - High growth o High resources o More food - 2 types of growth curves o Idealistic, assumption that there are resources (1 ) logarithmic o Realistic (2 ) nd Logarithmic Sigmoidal - The realistic growth curve increases to a point then it slows down and then growth becomes zero - Rapid growth, then it being s to slow and then flattens out, sigmoidal growth curve - K or carrying capacity: maximum
