Gluconeogenesis performed by the liver; insulin reduces glucose production. Largest sink for glucose is skeletal muscles (periphery) exercise is really good for removing glucose and preventing diabetes/excess glucose in the blood. Fatty deposits in the liver insulin resistance, can"t get into the liver to block gluconeogenesis and blocks skeletal muscle induces insulin resistance in the periphery; sugar builds in the blood b/c not taken up by musculature. Feed rat a cafeteria diet gets obese.
