Document Summary

Different fuels can be used to make atp. All can be used in the krebs cycle by oxidative phosphorylation to make atp. Most efficient = perfect coupling of the protons. Reducing equivalents send electrons = pumping of protons out of matric. Electron reacts with oxygen to make water - how the krebs cycle is linked to oxidative phosphorylation. Protons would bind to this substance, diffuse across the membrane and be used again. This was supporting the oxidation of fuels to pump protons out, but the protons weren"t supporting atp synthase, they were just diffusing across the membrane. Uses the fuels, but doesn"t make atp and thus burns fat but uncoupling. All oxidation reactions that make atp, ie the krebs etc - everything will speed up to sustain atp synthesis and metabolic reaction rates increase - Rate of overall metabolism increases = more heat being produced. Active transport processes regulate the internal environment different from the external environment.
