Cronus castrates ouranos --> aphrodite is born. 116-210 aphrodite + hephaestus: both were arranged to marry (as a joke?) Book 8 of the odyssey - the song of ares and aphrodite. Aphrodite + ares: hephaestus makes a deal with poseidon. Eros/cupid - child of aphrodite: ares is suspected to be the father. Love poetry was influential for all poets after. Lengthy poems that talk about the origins of the gods. Zeus + leto => apollo + artemis. Homeric hymn #3: leto flees hera. Wanders earth to give birth to her children: birth of apollo island of delos, artemis was born first - helped deliver her brother, delos - island moved wherever it wanted to. Niobe: believed she was better than leto because she has more children, apollo and artemis kill niobe"s children for leto, niobe cries on a rock until she turned into one herself.
