Standard story: it came to a vote, and somehow odysseus arranged that the voters were trojan prisoners the prisoners wanted to stir up shit and gave the arms to odysseus to make ajax crazy. Other stories say that odysseus simply spoke eloquently and convinced everyone to give him the armor. Ajax is humiliated and plans to go out at night and kill every greek leader (agamemnon, odysseus, menelaus etc. ) Athena sees that he is about to do this and puts a blindness on his eyes.
