Appears value free as its based on frequency of behaviour, not social acceptability. Also consider if it deviates from a social norm: what may be considered the norm in one culture may not be in another. Deviant and abnormal are confusing, prefer atypical variaions. Atypical paterns of sexual arousal or behaviour that become problemaic in the eyes of the individual or society. Sexual arousal in response to unusual simuli (children, nonconsening persons, nonhuman objects, pain or humiliaion: mutually consening and unharmful paraphilic behaviours are oten referred to as kinky sex. Paraphilic disorder causes distress and/or is harmful to self or others. Recurrent urges acted on or are distressing to individual. Preoccupied with thoughts and fantasies, unable to become aroused without simulus are they harmless and vicimless. Based on poliics or science: moser & kleinplatz shouldn"t be used as basis for psychiatric disorders. Therapists should work towards eliminaing but to learn how to express behaviour in a healthy manner.
