Labour legislation: labour relations strategy, effects of unions on hrm. During the lectures on labour relations we will be watching clips from the classic film, (cid:498)final offer(cid:499). There will be questions on the final exam from this film. Why unions exist: working conditions during the industrial revolution. Arbitrary termination of employment: establishment of unions. What is a union: an organization with the legal authority to represent workers, negotiate the terms and conditions of employment with the employer, and administer the collective agreement, collective agreement. Contract negotiated between union and employer outlining terms and conditions of employment. Establishes (cid:498)work rules(cid:499): wages, hours of work, and working conditions. A number of countries have experienced a decline in union density; increasing in others. Unionization in canada: about 30% of canadian workers are unionized has been stable. About 75% of public sector; 19% of private sector. About 15% in us; 30% in germany; 80% in sweden.
