These are special kinds of manufacturing plants that assemble components or finished products for export. Set- up in duty-free zones to take advantage of some of the cheapest labour in the world. Taxes that these companies are paying to the municipalities aren"t providing basic services like safe transportation, decent lighting, day care, etc. Killings raise issues around sexism, racism, discrimination and denial of responsibly for women"s lives by authorities at all levels.
